At 6', 185 lbs., Laquan Jones was one heck of a high school basketball player. Now, at 28 years of age, the Georgia native is making his mark on the muscle model scene with an impressive 6th Place at last year's Model Universe in Florida. Professionally, Laquan worked overseas in both Iraq and Afghanistan for 4 years as a military contrator. But, he says, his passion is in the gym. "I feel in love with lifting weights and eating healthy," Laquan attests. "I only started competing less than a year ago, so I am working to make a name for myself on stage. I love motivating and inspiring people to workout and live a healthier life." Laquan will be back at the Fitness Universe Weekend in June.
Sport models galore were on stage at the recent Model America™ Championships with tanned, toned bodies, beautiful and handsome looks and captivating personalities. Capturing the show was Texas belle Jessica Vasquez who also won the Ms. Bikini America the year before. The third grade school teacher trains daily and does sports modeling on weekends. Aussie Mark Robinson took First Place by bringing a fresh looking, beach body with commercial looks to the stage. Las Vegas entertainer and martial arts expert Steven Kin won the the Men's Classic Division for the hometown crowd while an athletic David Bravo finally took the Tall Class after trying for five seasons at Model America. The Women's Classic Winner was Australia's Kristen Lonie and the Open Short Class by Sofia Russila-Nousiainen, a stunning Finnish sports model who was competing for the first time! With a mix of over 100 amazing international sports models from every continent, this was the most competitive show ever. Model Universe will host over 70 shows this season including in Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa.
